2003 CCA Winner Bitch
Dam & Granddam of Historic Collies
Skylar was an important Collie that helped establish Southland Collies on a National level. One year following Ch. Southland Bowen Island’s triumph at the 2002 CCA National in Riverside, California, Skylar went to the 2003 CCA National in Rochester, Minnesota as a class entry and wrote her name in the breed history books taking 2003 CCA Winners Bitch under Judge Joe Reno. Southland Collies had established itself as a top breeder at a National level.
Genotypically, she was a 100% blood-sister to Bowen. Her dam was a littermate to Bowen’s sire, and her sire was a littermate to Bowen’s dam.
Skylar came back to Wyndlair in preparation for the 2008 CCA National in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. As our priority special, she made it down to the final cut in Rough specials under judge Tom Coen, falling one cut short of an Award of Merit. Following that National, we leased her and bred her to Classique Collies’ exquisite sable-headed white, Glenbracken Classique On Ice. From that litter we got BISS Am./Ger. Ch. Wyndlair Polaris (owned by Astrid Lautenschlag – Germany) and Wyndlair Aurora Borealis – dam of the top producer, Ch. Wyndlair Rachel Alexandra (by Wyndlair Avalanche, ROM).
Skylar proved to be an influential producer for a number of Collie breeders, as well. She produced Ch. Blu Ridge Lookout and Ch. Blu Ridge Ride The Waves, ROM – who individually took Blu Ridge Collies to national prominence producing multiple CCA winners. For her breeder, Sheela “Mike” Cheatham, she produced Ch. Southland’s Carnton – 2013 CCA Winners Bitch/Best of Winners.
Skylar will go down in breed history both as a National winner and a top producer. Very few Collies can make such a claim. We are proud to have her in our pedigrees.
